ROHMER GALLERY PRESENTS
Marcie Paper & Benni Huang
May 1 – June 21, 2026

Rohmer Gallery is pleased to present a two-person exhibition featuring Marcie Paper and Benni Huang. On view from May 1 through June 21, 2026, the exhibition brings together two Hudson Valley–based artists whose work explores perception, memory, and the complexities of human experience through distinct and compelling visual languages.

Benni Huang’s paintings are rooted in sustained observation. Working with local models from Kingston, Hudson, and Beacon, Huang develops her figurative works over multiple sittings, allowing a nuanced psychological dimension to emerge. These paintings move beyond portraiture, capturing the evolving relationship between artist and subject—what is revealed, what is withheld, and what is perceived. Her expressive, tactile surfaces heighten this sense of immediacy, inviting viewers into a charged space shaped by attention, vulnerability, and the act of looking at itself.

In contrast, Marcie Paper’s work unfolds through pattern, repetition, and abstraction. Her multidisciplinary practice spans painting, murals, and animation, with a focus on the structure and resonance of short-term memory. Paper’s compositions often take the form of rhythmic visual systems, where repeated shapes shift across the surface, suggesting both order and improvisation. Her work reflects an ongoing investigation into how perception is formed, fragmented, and reassembled.

Together, Huang and Paper create a compelling dialogue between figuration and abstraction, the observed and the remembered, the body and the pattern. The exhibition offers two distinct yet complementary ways of seeing—one grounded in direct encounter, the other in the shifting architecture of memory.
Exhibition Dates: May 1 – June 21, 2026
Location: Rohmer Gallery, Saugerties, NY

Local Upstate artist Elliott Landy is celebrated for his iconic portraits of the greats of classic rock (Bob Dylan, The Band, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix), yet his vision extends far beyond the legend of Woodstock. PopColors at Rohmer Gallery presents Landy’s “Street Photography of the 21st Century,” a vivid exploration of everyday life rendered through his discerning eye for composition and experimentation.

Printed richly on stretched canvas, these photographs contemplate the passage of time—through candid human presence and the very devices that record it. Using a distinctive filter unique to one version of his Olympus digital camera, Landy captures images that can never be replicated. Once his camera ceases to function, this body of work will reach its natural conclusion. Each photograph is presented exactly as captured—without retouching or post-editing.

Alongside PopColors, the exhibition also features a curated selection of Landy’s legendary Rock Photography, bridging the timeless energy of music with the quiet immediacy of everyday life.
